"Centuries later intercine quarrels between the descendants of Lava and Kusha, ended when the descendants of Lava were victorious over the descendants of Kusha. Some of the descendants of Kusha saved themselves by fleeing to Kashi where many of them delved into the studies of the four Vedas. Those who studied the Vedas (called Vedis or Bedis), absorbed themselves in good acts of righteousness. Generations later, when the then King of Punjab requested them to return to their ancient home land, all the Bedis returned to Punjab."
